“Wow! What an amazing tour with Florin Tjaduwa tours. The entire trip was lovely and well curated. Typically would not use that term for a tour but this one really felt like it. We were picked up in a very nice Mercedes van driven by a licensed driver – David – what a charming man. We took a very comfortable ride to some amazing places I’d not seen in Portugal. The tour is very much off the “tourist beaten” path… I’m grateful for this – the tourist places are lovely but it is always nice to experience something different.
Our first stop was at the workshop of a famous PT Artist by the name of Mircea. He works on large scale pieces and installations ranging from marble sculptures and furniture to complete interior architectural designs. He’s been featured in shows (and magazines) all over the world. Mircea personally lead us on a tour of his studio, walked us through his process, showed us some unbelievable things… and then had a lovely lunch with us. This is someplace I want to go back to again and again. Side note, his studio also contains an Adega for the wine lovers among us.
After being dragged away from Mircea – no one wanted to leave… we took a beautiful ride through the Alentejo countryside… in full bloom. Green and covered in fields of flowers. Beautiful. We then stopped at the Sao Lourenco de Barrocal hotel. Fantastic setting with pool, gardens, vineyards and my favorite... the horse stable. Only pictures could do justice to our experience. Sao Lourenco de Barrocal Hotel is also a working vineyard – the wines are amazing and very well priced. Our last stop was an education one in the village of San Pedro do Corval. One of the most famous areas for Olarias.
We were hosted by Jason Lyn at his home which is really like its own village inside the village. We had an interesting and educational tour of his home, its history and ended with a review of his extensive personal ceramics collection. Jason is very gracious and has a deep knowledge of pottery history from around the world. It is no surprise he choose to live in SPdC.
I personally recommend this tour to anyone looking for something special and out of the ordinary. We received a very Portuguese experience in an unconventional way… one that put us in touch with the culture in a personal way. Hats off to YASMIN’s Florin Tjaduwa tours."
